On Tuesday February 15, 2011, the University President of Johns Hopkins announced that they were going to build a new lacrosse center on the south end of Homewood Field. It will be the first of its kind, and it is going to be made only for their men and women's lacrosse teams. The whole thing is going to cost around $10 million dollars. The stadium will be 14,000 square feet and will be named after David Cordish, who graduated in the 1960s.
Don Cordish is the leading donor, who played on the Blue Jays for 3 years while attending Johns Hopkins. Don and many other private donors have raised enough money to build this new center. This year, during halftime of the Johns Hopkins-Navy men's lacrosse game, they will break ground and they'll start the construction sometime in June. The stadium should be finished sometime in 2012.
The center is going to have a theater that will hold 50 people, a training room, office space that overlooks the field, new locker rooms for the men and women, a conference room, and an academic center. On the second level, there will be an indoor reception that will lead to a patio, the patio will be used for game viewing, and receptions.

That is really interesting that they are so into lacrosse up there. I have never realized how popular the sport is in this country. Why is a field going to cost so much money? Is this college known for their lacrosse team? Are you interested in playing lacrosse there when you go to college?
